どうも、吾輩です。
前回「魔法のように上達する〇〇」の続きです。
前回以上に自分語りが中心になっておりますので、嫌いな方はバックプリーズ。
水彩作家さんに「水彩は初期投資が安い」と教えてもらったその足で、水彩絵の具を買いに行きました。幸い大きな画材屋さんがありますので、そこへ向かいます。
しかしここで問題が。
どの絵の具を買えばいいのか。
そもそも、どの色を買えばいいのか。
水彩絵の具にもメーカーはいろいろあります。少し迷った末、吾輩はホルベインを選びました。理由は安かったから（ひどい）。ほかのメーカーに比べればお値段がリーズナブルだというだけで、充分プロの作品に耐えうる品質の絵の具様であるとここで主張しておきます。
色については、よく使いそうな色。
具体的には赤、青、黄色の三原色に、肌の色に使えそうな色、影の表現に使えそうな色。ある程度書きたい作品のビジョンを決めてから、それに合う色を買いに来るのも手です。
吾輩は「自創作の、このキャラを描きたいな」という予定がすでにあったので、彼の髪と衣装に使えそうな色を購入しました。
パレットなどの関連道具も入手して、この日から吾輩はわからないなりに水彩画を描き始めることとなります。
んで。
前回から続くテーマなのですが。
吾輩は水彩を始めて劇的に上達しました。
いままで鉛筆画ばっかりのところに色が付いたからうまく見えたのかもしれません。少なくとも最初は。それからは影を意識するようになり、風景が描けないならそれっぽい描き込みでごまかしちゃえ！ と抽象背景を描くようになり、その描き込みがキャラクターの衣装にまで及び、いつの間にか人物デッサンも最初よりいくらかましな雰囲気になっていました。
もちろん一朝一夕で上達したわけではないですし、独学で勉強もしました。それを差し引いても、劇的な早さだったと記憶しています。
かなり話を引っ張ってしまいましたが、この吾輩のように「特定の技法・ツールで劇的に伸びる」方は、実は存在するんではないかと思う次第です。例えばイラストソフト１つとっても機能が違いますし、同じ機能が搭載されていたとしてもそれを起動させるボタンが違ったりするわけです。このあたりは慣れによる効率化がしやすいところではありますが「初期配置ドンピシャ！ 超わかりやすい！」というソフトに巡り合って、そのソフトでのメイキングなどを見て独学すれば、「劇的に伸びる」ことは不可能ではないのかもしれません。
何度も言いますが、努力は必要。最近には図書館にも、デジタルイラストの本が置いてあったりします。ネット上で、メイキングを公開してくれている方もいます。
最後に身もふたもないことを言います。
吾輩が透明水彩で上達できたのは「好きだから」というのも大きいと思っています。
小学校の、図画工作の時間が好きとでも言いましょうか。自分で絵の具出して、溶いて、筆を握って塗って、ムラだはみだしだに一喜一憂して。うまいことグラデ―ションがかかってくれたら、ガッツポーズ！
水彩、するぞ！ と思っただけで、気負いますけど、それ以上にわくわくします。
こんな感じで「それに触れること自体がわくわくする」ツールに出会った時、人は劇的な成長を見せるのかもしれません……なんちゃって。
絵描きさんが自分にぴったりの画法に巡り合えますように。
